MSOC: Lasers' Senior Day spoiled by Monks

Newton, Mass. - The Lasell Men's Soccer team had its senior day today as they faced the Saint Joseph's Maine Monks. 

Lasell honored 5 athletes during the senior day festivities. Those athletes were Alex Melo (Haverhill, Mass.), Michael Palumbo (Boston, Mass.), Kyle Stewart (Webster, Mass.), Elisio Nascimento (Pawtucket, R.I.), and Nico Manganiello (Peabody, Mass.). 

The Monks got on the board very early when Austin Ward would net in a penalty kick goal 57 seconds into the start of the game. After multiple shot attempts by Saint Joseph's Maine went unsuccessful, the Lasers would score a goal of their own to tie it up in the first half after a sensational goal from Daniel Faynstein (Needham, Mass.) in which the sophomore shot the ball from the top of the box on the right side into the back left corner of the net at the 32:12 mark. Then, the second half was a battle on both sides with both teams looking to be victorious. However, late in the second half with 1:20 left in the game, Rion Dos Santos netted in the game-winning goal to lift the Monks over the Lasers, spoiling their Senior Day.

Lasell drops to 4-8-3 (2-5-3 in GNAC) and the Monks of USJ improve to 10-3-1 (9-1-0 in GNAC play). The Lasers are back in action Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Farmington, Maine to face the University of Maine-Farmington. Meanwhile, the Monks host Rivier on Wednesday evening at the SJC Athletics Complex.
