MSOC: Three goal second half surge lifts Lasers over Elms

Newton, Mass. - The Lasell University Men's Soccer team went up against their foe Elms Blazers in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup in which the Lasers defeated the Blazers 4-1 at Taylor Field after a 3 goal surge in the second half.

Lasell got on the board very early when Freshman Midfielder Ryan Klopchin (Butler, N.J.) netted in his first career goal with the assist being from Daniel Faynstein (Needham, Mass.) at the 9:26 mark to put the Lasers up 1-0. Then, later on in the half, Elms would tie it up from an unassisted goal scored by Noah Jaques to tie it up for the Blazers at 1-1.

The second half started and it seemed to be that everything would go in Lasell's direction. A few minutes into the second half, Freshman Midfielder Liam Thompson (Jericho, Vt.) would also net his first career goal at the 53 minute mark with the assist being from Faynstein. Lasell was not done as Faynstein would net his 10th goal of the year at 70 minutes with the help of Graduate Student Defender Jonathan Martinez (Stonypoint, N.Y.) to bring them 3-1. Then, after a foul committed by Elms forced a penalty kick attempt, Junior Forward Jaydon Perez (Amherst, Mass.) successfully netted the PK to notch his 5th goal of the year as the Lasers eventually would take this game 4-1.

Lasell led the game in shot attempts with 20 total and 12 of them being on goal attempts. Meanwhile, Elms goalkeeper Collin Liedke converted 8 saves for the Blazers.

The Lasers move to 4-7-3 (2-4-3 in GNAC play) on the year and the Blazers fall to 4-9 (2-6 in GNAC play). Lasell will be back in action Saturday afternoon for Senior Day against the University of Saint Joseph's (Maine) and Elms will host Rivier University on Saturday afternoon as well.
