MSOC: Palumbo scores two to lead Lasers to first GNAC victory

Franklin, Mass. – Junior Michael Palumbo (Boston, Mass.) scored two world-class goals to lead the Lasell University Lasers men's soccer team to a, 3-1, Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over the Dean Saturday afternoon.

The win improves the Lasers to 2-8 on the year and 1-5 in the GNAC, while Dean falls to 2-8 on the year and 1-5 in the GNAC

Senior goalkeeper Zack LaWare (Wilbraham, Mass.) got his first win of the season, making six saves and adding an assist from net.

The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead, five minutes into the action, when sophomore Shavar Champagnie (West Yarmouth, Mass.) fed sophomore Kazu Noguchi (Hyogo, Japan) who finished for his second goal of the season.

In the 39th minute, LaWare sent a kick over the top of the Dean defenders to a streaking sophomore Jaydon Perez (Amherst, Mass.). Perez traveled down the right flank and scored into the left corner of the net to tie the score at 1-1 heading into halftime.

The Lasers took a 2-1 lead in the 80th minute when Palumbo ripped a shot from 25 yards out into the upper left corner of the net.

Three minutes later, Palumbo found space just over the midfield line and sent a high-arching ball towards goal the went over the Dean keeper for the insurance goal from 40 yards out.

The Lasers will be back in action on Tuesday, October 5, when they travel to Saint Joseph's Maine for a conference clash. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
