MSOC: Lasell edges Emmanuel in overtime; DaSilva the hero for Lasers

NEWTON, Mass. – Sophomore Edson DaSilva (Hingham, Mass.) scored two goals Saturday afternoon, including the overtime game-winner, as Lasell University edged Emmanuel College, 2-1, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer contest at Taylor Field.

DaSilva scored his first goal 10 minutes into the second half, assisted by junior Simon Nigro (Simsbury, Conn.), to give the Lasers a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Campbell Shealy (Lexington, S.C.) tallied the equalizer for Emmanuel in the 68th minute, setting up the overtime session.

Just under six minutes into overtime, a shot by Nigro was blocked by the Saints' defense. The loose ball came to DaSilva, who blasted a line drive into the back of the net from about eight yards out for the game-winner.

Emmanuel (6-6-0, 3-3-0 GNAC) finished with a 20-9 margin in shots on goal, including an 11-4 advantage in what was a scoreless first half. Each team took one shot in the overtime.

Senior keeper Jackson Burhans (Berlin, N.Y.) made eight saves to post his first win of the season for Lasell. Senior Jonathan Ferrarini (Hanover, Mass.) finished with five saves for the Saints.

Lasell (2-13, 1-5 GNAC), which snapped a seven-game losing skid, returns to the pitch on Wednesday, October 16, with a GNAC game at Regis College, a game that has been changed to start at 3 p.m. Emmanuel returns home to host Albertus Magnus College on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in a GNAC clash.
