MSOC: Lasell drops GNAC game at JWU; Ouellette scores lone goal for Lasers

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Jake Ouellette (East Granby, Conn.) put Lasell University on the board in the first minute of the game Wednesday afternoon but that ended up as all of the team's offense as the Lasers fell to Johnson & Wales University, 3-1, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer game at Scotts Miracle-Gro Stadium.

Ouellette scored his first goal of the season just 50 seconds after the opening kick-off, assisted by senior Francisco Villacorta (Lima, Peru). Oullette finished with two of Lasell's three shots in the game, and junior Simon Nigro (Simsbury,  Conn.) had the other.

Sophomore JP RIoux (Stony Point, N.Y.) tallied the first of his two goals for JWU in the sixth minute to tie the score and two teams went into halftime with a 1-1 deadlock. Senior Riley Spotton (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) gave the Wildcats the lead two minutes into the second half, and Rioux added an insurance goal five minutes later.

JWU finished with an 11-3 advantage in shots. Freshman Nick Pappas (Peabody, Mass.) made four saves in the Laser goal and junior Austin Scoggin (Cutchogue, N.Y.) made two saves for JWU.

The Lasers return home to host Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday, October 5, in a GNAC game at 3 p.m. JWU also plays on Saturday in a GNAC match-up at Colby-Sawyer College at 1 p.m.
