MSOC: Lasell drops non-conference game to Keene State

NEWTON, Mass. – Junior Emmanuel Smith (Concord, N.H.) scored a pair of first-half goals Monday afternoon and Keene State College went on to a 5-0 victory over Lasell University in non-conference men's soccer action at Taylor Field.

The visitors finished with a 25-5 advantage in shots on goal in the victory. Keene State won its third game in a row with its first shutout, improving to 6-1 on the season, while Lasell drops to 1-8.

Lasell senior keeper Chris Tran (Nantucket, Mass.) had a busy day in goal and made some outstanding stops, finishing with 10 saves.

Smith scored Keene State's first two goals in the first half to give him a team-leading eight goals on the season. He went 1-on-1 against a Lasell defender, cut to the right and knocked in a goal inside the left post in the 14th minute. He scored again at the 19-minute mark with a chip shot from the left side over the keeper's head to push the Owl lead to 2-0.

Sophomore Vance Bates (Chatham, Mass.) tacked on another goal for Keene in the 32nd minute, finishing off a cross from junior LJ Luster (Colchester, Conn.), and the Owls led 3-0 at the intermission.

The visitors tallied two second-half goals to secure the victory. Senior Dale Dubinsky (Sutton, Mass.) scored on a header on a crossing pass from classmate Donovan Harris (East Hartford, Conn.) in the 50th minute, and sophomore Anthony Fonseca (Marshfield, Mass.) knocked in a cross from freshman Josue Assantha (Manchester, N.H.) in the 78th minute. Both were the first goals of the season for the goal scorers.

Lasell returns to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday, September 28, visiting Albertus Magnus College for a 1:00 match-up. Keene State returns home to host Clark University on Wednesday, September 25, in a non-conference clash at 6:30 p.m.
