MSOC: Lasell no match for Saint Joseph (Conn.)

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Lasell University was no match for the University of Saint Joseph Saturday afternoon, dropping a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer match, 10-0, in the Blue Jays' home debut on the newly renovated turf USJ Soccer Field.

After playing scoreless soccer for 22 minutes, the Blue Jays erupted with three goals in a three-minute span. They had a two-goal spurt late in the half for a 5-0 lead at the break. USJ put in two more in the first seven minutes of the second half and coasted to the win. The Blue Jays improve to 5-1-0 overall on the season and 2-0-0 in the GNAC, while the Lasers slip to 1-7-0 and 0-2-0.

Sophomore Hayden Burbank (Southington, Conn.) powered the offensive onslaught with three goals and an assist and logged his first career hat trick. Six different Blue Jays scored in the contest and three Blue Jays had multi-goal games led by Burbank's hat-trick. USJ outshot Lasell 28-0 and held a 16-0 advantage in shots on goal.

Freshman Nick Pappas (Peabody, Mass.) started and played the first half in goal for Lasell and took the loss. Sophomore Zack Laware (Wilbraham, Mass.) came on for the second half and made four saves.

Lasell returns home to host Keene State College this Monday, September 23, in a non-conference game at Taylor Field, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
