MSOC: Lasell blanked by Eastern Nazarene

QUINCY, Mass. – The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team scored four goals in a five-minute stretch in the first half Wednesday evening and went on to a 4-0 victory over Lasell University in a non-conference match at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The Lions (3-1) opened the scoring in the 34th minute as Carlos Moya (Oviedo, Spain) headed in his first collegiate goal off of a corner kick by Leon Zaffonato (Canela, Brazil).

Eastern Nazarene doubled its lead to 2-0 in the 36th minute. Zaffonato rifled a left-footed shot into the upper corner of the cage to collect his second marker of the season while Sheelens Ostine (Quincy, Mass.) picked up his first career assist.

Ostine netted his first collegiate goal in the 37th minute to push the hosts' advantage to 3-0 as Bryan Vargas (San Jose, Costa Rica) provided the assist. The Lions capped off the scoring in the 39th minute of the opening stanza. Mohamed Gouriche (Weymouth, Mass.) buried his first college marker with a left-footed effort inside the box.

Eastern Nazarene carried the 4-0 lead into the halftime intermission after firing 14 shots in the first frame and limiting Lasell to just one attempt. Neither squad found the back of the net in the second half as the Lions secured their third-straight win.

Eastern Nazarene concluded the contest with 25 shots while the Lasers managed just five shots on the night, including two by junior Simon Nigro (Simsbury, Conn.)

Sophomore keeper Zack Laware (Wilbraham, Mass.) made five saves for Lasell in the scoreless second half after senior Jackson Burhans (Berlin, N.Y.) made two stops in the first half.

Tyler Ferreira (Berkley, Mass.) finished with a pair of saves in his fourth start of the season in goal before Tim Eddings (Endicott, N.Y.) closed out the match between the pipes in his second appearance of the year.

Lasell (0-5) opens up Great Northeast Athletic Conference play on Saturday, September 14, hosting Colby-Sawyer College in the home opener at Taylor Field at 1 p.m. Eastern Nazarene heads to Curry at Saturday.
