MSOC: Lasell drops non-conference game at Eastern Connecticut

MANSFIELD, Conn. – The Lasell University men's soccer team is still looking for its first win of the season after suffering a 3-0 non-conference setback to Eastern Connecticut State University Saturday afternoon at Rick McCarthy Field.

Sophomore Patrick Agyemang (East Hartford, Conn.) recorded his first career hat trick as Eastern posted its third straight shutout win. The Warriors are now 3-0 on the season while Lasell drops to 0-4.

Agyemang, last year's leading scorer with nine goals and 21 points, gave the Warriors a quick 1-0 lead in the seventh minute, and after the standout goaltending of senior Chris Tran (Nantucket, Mass.) kept it a one-goal game for the next 50 minutes, Agyemang finally broke loose again 12 minutes into the second half, then closed it out with 15 minutes remaining with his fourth goal of the season.

Eastern outshot the Lasers, 33-4 -- landing 16 on Tran – and collected 14 of the game's 16 corner kicks. Tran made countless point-blank saves to keep the guests within striking distance. Agyemang and Luczek combined for 12 shots, putting 10 on cage.

In a span of three minutes in the first half, Tran kept the margin at one goal with four saves off prime attempts by four different players, the keeper robbing Luczek, Agyemang (on a header off a corner kick), junior forward Danny Shayler on a breakaway  and on a blast from junior defender David Noel which he deflected wide with an outstretched dive.

Lasell will look to get on track this Wednesday, September 11, with a non-conference matchup at Eastern Nazarene College at 7 p.m. Eastern visits Trinity College for a non-conference match Tuesday at 7 p.m.
