MSOC: Lasell drops season opener at Union (N.Y.)

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Lasell University men's soccer team dropped its 2019 season opener Friday evening, falling to Union College (N.Y.), 6-1, in a non-conference match-up at College Park Field.

The Lasers fell behind 3-0 early on, as Union tallied three goals in the first seven minutes of the game, including two by Jeremy Conn. The Dutchmen went on to lead 4-0 by the end of the first half.

Union extended the margin to 5-0 early in the second half as Salvador Lopez, Jr., scored his second goal of the contest. Lasell finally got on the board in the 60th minute as freshman Alex Melo (Haverhill, Mass.) knocked in a goal with an assist from junior Simon Nigro (Simsbury, Conn.). Union tacked on a late goal for the 6-1 final.

Union finished with an 18-3 advantage in shots. Sophomore Jake Ouellette (East Granby, Conn.) and sophomore Chandler Ray (Stonington, Conn.) accounted for the other two shots for Lasell.

The Lasers will play again on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
