Lasell Men’s Soccer plays to draw against Regis

NEWTON, Mass. – The Lasell College Lasers and the Regis College Pride played to a 1-1 draw that ended in double overtime Wednesday in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer game at Taylor Field in Lasell's annual pediatric cancer awareness game.

The highlight of the game was a 35-yard goal scored by Lasell senior Sawyer Geelan (Guilford, Conn.). Geelan's second goal of the season was a screamer that shot perfectly into the upper left corner, and it opened the scoring for the game in the 59th minute.

It didn't take long for Regis to answer, as Cesar Da Silva (Boca Raton, Fla.) knocked in the other goal of the game in the 67th minute, as he was able to sneak it by the Laser defense.

Praise has to be given to all the goalies, who combined for a total of 23 saves. Junior starter Jackson Burhans (Berlin, N.Y.) led the way for the Lasers with nine saves, while junior Teo Cugno (Medford, Mass.) who came in for Berhans in the second half, recorded seven. Berhans came back in for overtime and recorded a few outstanding saves to keep the Lasers in the game.

Regis goalie Ivan Ramirez (San Juan, Puerto Rico), making the first start of his collegiate career, also recorded seven saves for the Pride in an impressive effort.

Regis outshot Lasell 24-13, and doubled the Lasers up in corner kicks 8-4. There were numerous scoring chances on both sides, especially in the second half, as 17 total shots were recorded.

The Lasers return to action on Saturday at 1:00 P.M. as they will travel to Colby-Sawyer College for a GNAC battle. Regis returns on Saturday as well, be travelling to Saint Joseph's (Maine).
