NEWTON, Mass. (9/9/17) – The Lasell men's soccer team battled the College of Staten Island to a 1-1 draw at halftime, but the Dolphins scored two unanswered goals in the second half to defeat the Lasers 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Lasell drops to 0-3 overall, while Staten Island advances to 3-1 this season on their third straight victory.

Junior Connor Wall (East Hampton, Conn.) scored Lasell's lone goal of the match, an unassisted equalizer in the 54th minute.

Mike Arellanes, Bryant Navarro, and Dardan Nika each finished with a single goal for the Dolphins, while Breny Sales and Ali Fares collected an assist apiece in the effort.

Despite the Dolphins' 15-2 advantage in shots during the first half, both teams battled to a scoreless 41 minutes before Arellanes got on the board. Breny Salas ripped a shot just inside the six-yard-box that was stopped by reaching goalkeeper Jackson Burhans (Berlin, N.Y.), as Arellanes collected the loose ball in front, and buried his second goal of the season past Burhans' right side.

Wall took it upon himself to even out the score at 54:23, as the junior blasted a shot in the far netting past the hands of Balint Barabas. Staten Island put the game out of reach in the 79th minute, scoring back to back goals within 38 seconds. Navarro sparked the offensive surge with a header goal off a corner kick from Fares, before Nika collected a ball from a long throw in and finished near post.

Burhans made three saves in net and drops to 0-2 for the Lasers, while Barabas evens out at 1-1 with six saves in the cage for Staten Island.

Both teams return to play on Wednesday, September 13 at 4:00 p.m. The Lasers host Southern Vermont for a non-conference affair, while the Dolphins welcome New Jersey City University.
