Emmanuel Comes Back to Down Men's Soccer 3-1

BOSTON, Mass. - The Lasell men's soccer team scored an early goal but fell to three consecutive markers from Emmanuel College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action under the lights on Roberto Clemente Field on Thursday night.  The Lasers dropped to 1-10 on the season and 0-5 in league play with the loss while the Saints improved to 4-6-2 overall and 1-2-1 GNAC.

Both teams entered the contest looking for their first conference win of the season.  The visitors got on the board first, when junior midfielder Stephen Blood (Windsor, Conn.) scored off an assist from Austin Tomasetti (Elmsford, N.Y.) in the 23rd minute of play, giving Lasell a 1-0 edge.

Saints senior forward Colin O'Donnell (Killingworth, Conn.) netted his first of two goals on the night, scoring the equalizer in the 30th minute.  O'Donnell was assisted by Travis Cole (Beckley, W.V.) for his 7th goal of the season, knotting the contest at 1-1.

The contest would remain tied for the next 30 minutes.  In the 59th minute of play, a Laser defender was called for a red card and the visitors were forced to finish the night playing a man down.  The Saints took advantage, with sophomore David Quaye (Ashburnham, Mass.) heading in the game-winner at 60:46.  O'Donnell tacked on an unassisted insurance goal, ripping a shot from deep on the left side at 86:00, giving the hosts a 3-1 win.

Rookie goalie Jonathan Ferrarini (Hanover, Mass.) stopped two shots and picked up the win for the Saints, improving to 4-6-2 on the year.  Freshman Matteo Cugno (Medford, Mass.) took the loss between the pipes for the Lasers, dropping to 1-1 overall, but making six saves in the effort.

The Saints outshot the Lasers, 12-6, and held a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Lasell plays at home again this Saturday when they host Rivier University in a 1:00 PM start, while Emmanuel also returns to play on Saturday, hosting Anna Maria College in a GNAC showdown, beginning at noon.
