Owls Blank Men's Soccer 4-0

NEWTON, Mass. (9/21/16) - The Lasell College men's soccer team suffered a 4-0 defeat against Westfield State University in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at Taylor Field.

The Lasers drop to 0-6 while the Owls improve to 3-3-1 on the season.

The Lasers controlled the first few minutes of the game and came close to being the first on the board. Just six minutes into the game, Lasell set the tone early as sophomore forward Kenan Omerbasic (Windsor Locks, Conn.) ripped a shot from the top of the box that dinged the post to keep the scoreless stalemate.

Owls junior Connor Gilbert (Melrose, Mass.) broke open the scoring at 19:57 when classmate Kory McGilvray (Wilmington, Mass.) chucked a long toss into the box from the throw in, where Gilbert headed the ball into the back of the net.

The Owls tacked on three additional goals over a 20-minute span, sparked by sophomore Tyler Gay (Hatfield, Mass.), who scored on a breakaway just two minutes into the second half. Sophomore Josh Baillargeon (Russell, Mass.) extended the Owls lead at 56:56 when Gay gave him a quick pass in the box for the easy finesse.  Freshman Alex Dragon (Holyoke, Mass.) capped the electric offense for the Owls in the 60th minute, scoring off a mishandle by the Lasers' goalkeeper.

Lasell freshman goalkeeper Jackson Burhans (Berlin, N.Y.) (0-3) made seven saves in the effort, while Owls junior Alex Kraver (West Springfield, Mass.) (2-2-1) earned the win in the cage with fives save en route to his first shutout of the season.

Lasell returns to GNAC action on Saturday, September 24 when the Cadets of Norwich University travel down to Taylor Field for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.  Westfield returns to the pitch on Saturday as well for a home game against MASCAC opponent Fitchburg State University at 12:00 p.m.
