Springfield Scores Two in the Last Five, Shut Out Men's Soccer 3-0

Springfield, Mass. - 9/4/15 - Springfield College shut out the Lasell College men's soccer team, 3-0, Friday afternoon at Brock-Affleck Field. With the win, Lasell drops to 0-2 overall while the Pride move to 1-0 on the year.

Junior forward Luke Alvaro (Chicopee, Mass.) led the Pride with two goals on the day, while senior midfielder Connor Archambault (Torrance, Calif.) and freshman forward Christian Schneider (Shelton, Conn.) registered a pair of assists, and Danny Murphy (Old Saybrook, Conn.) tallied his first-career goal in a Springfield College uniform.

Lasell senior goalkeeper Miguel Colmenares (Caracas, Venezuela) finished the contest with five stops, while Springfield senior keeper Billy Schmid (Wethersfield, Conn.) finished the game with a pair of saves for Springfield.

Springfield opened the scoring early, as Archambault sent a pass through the middle of the Lasell defense, before Alvaro caught up to the ball and fired a shot past Colmenares to give the Pride a 1-0 edge just 10:14 into the contest.

Springfield had a flurry of chances for a second goal with 26:06 remaining in the game, as Murphy let a shot rip from inside the box, before sophomore midfielder Wayne Belcher (Norton, Mass.) collected the rebound, and blasted a shot off the right post. Picking up the loose ball in front, Murphy hit his second shot on net, but Colmenares came up with a big save to keep the Pride at bay.

With 3:55 left in the game, Alvaro netted his second goal of the game and provided Springfield with some insurance, as the junior finished off a cross from Schneider into the right side of the net.

Just 2:36 later, Murphy scored his first-career goal in a Springfield College uniform, as the transfer sophomore gave the Pride a 3-0 edge in the late stages of the contest.

The Lasers have a week of practice before their Great Northeast Athletic Conference opener at Norwich on Saturday, September 12 at 5:00 p.m., while Pride will hit the road to take on the Keene State Owls on Sunday, September 6 at 1:00 p.m.
