Wentworth Shuts Out Men's Soccer 3-0

BOSTON, Mass. – Lasell dropped a 3-0 season opening deicision to the Wentworth Institute of Technology 3-0 Tuesday evening in Boston, Mass. 

The Leopards had numerous chances in the first half, including three early on, however could not find the back of the net. Wentworth had a chance in the 43rd minute, however an open shot would hit the post. Despite there being no score at the half, the hosts had an 11-2 shot advantage.

Sophomore Michael Zendan (Charlotte, N.C.) would set up Wentworth's first goal when he launched a throw in from the right side. Classmate Semuel Dacaj (Norwood, Mass.) received the throw and would put a shot home to the left side at the 60:55 mark.

Wentworth took a 2-0 lead nearly eight minutes later when senior Sam Martins (Dartmouth, Mass.) took a free kick, which hit a defender and went to freshman James Morrison (New South Wales, Australia). Morrison slid a pass across the box that was deflected by Lasell senior Miguel Colmenares (Caracas, Venezuela) before sophomore Matt Cicalis (Bridgerwater, Mass.) put the loose ball home.

The Black & Gold rounded out the scoring with 19:46 left when Martins set up Zendan with a pass outside the box. Zendan's shot would find the back of the net, inside the lower right corner.

Freshman Matthew Sekerak (Winthrop, Maine) earned his first collegiate victory and shutout with five saves while Colmenares made 10 saves on the night. 

Lasell will travel to Springfield College on Friday, September 4 for a 4:00 p.m. kick-off, while Wentworth hosts Wheaton tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m.
