Newton Jordao Named Rookie of The Year; Four Lasers Chosen Overall

Newton, MA (11/10/14) - Newton Jordao (Hyannis, Mass.) has been named the 2014 Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's soccer Rookie of the Year after an impressive first-year performance. Jordao started in 12 of 18 game appearances, and tallied three goals and six assists. At the end of his freshman span, Jordao collected a total of 12 points.

Junior Conor Fitzgerald (Marshfield, Mass.) and senior Patrick McCarthy (Weymouth, Mass.) were placed on the GNAC First Team, while senior Eddie Roman (Revere, Mass.) joined Jordao on the Third Team. Fitzgerald and Roman were additionally chosen as the Lasell representatives for the All-Tournament Team.

Fitzgerald appeared in all 19 matches for the Lasers, leading the team in goals, points, and shots on net. With 13 goals and three assists, the Marshfield, Mass. native tallied 29 points on the year. Fitzgerald finished third for GNAC men's soccer leaders in goals, and fourth in total points.

The Lasell defense was led by McCarthy, Roman, and Jordao through excellent leadership and communication. McCarthy started in 16 appearances and tallied six shots, while Roman performed in all 19 matches and contributed with two goals.

Junior Taylor Witherbee (E. Bridgewater, Mass.) was named as the Lasell representative on the GNAC Sportsmanship Team.
