Men's soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw at Suffolk

SOMERVILLE, Ma. – The Suffolk University Men's Soccer team and Lasell College Lasers played to a 1-1 draw in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on a rainy Wednesday evening at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville. Lasell moved to 7-7-1 overall and 4-3-1 in conference action.

The game was halted with 1:10 remaining in regulation due to lightning in proximity to the field as the completion of the game would not coincide with the city light ordinance.

Suffolk got on the board first in the 14th minute of the game when senior Jeff Kelly (Colchester, Conn.) knocked in his first goal of the season. The play was started by senior Dave Cook (San Diego, Calif) who booted a corner kick that curved into the wind finding Kelly in front of the Lasell net for the game's first strike.

Suffolk would manage to hold off the Lasell offense for the majority of the contest until the 82nd minute of the game when junior Conor Fitzgerald (Marshfield, Mass.) put in his team leading 10th goal of the season to even things at one a piece.

Fitzgerald was busy most of the night as he led all players with six shots on goal to help pace a Lasers offense that put off 11 shots on night on the evening.

Junior Nicholas Chamma (Rio de Janero, Brazil) made 10 saves in goal for Suffolk and Miguel Colmenares recorded four saves in net for the Lasers.

Both team will wrap up conference play this upcoming Saturday on the road as Lasell will travel to Anna Maria College for a 4:00pm matchup with the AMCATS, while Suffolk will visit Albertus Magnus College to take on the Falcons at 7:30pm.
