Cadets Top Men's Soccer 2-1

NEWTON, Mass. (9/27/14) – The Lasell College men's soccer team were knocked off 2-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Lasell's Taylor Field. The loss dropped the Lasers to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in GNAC matches, while the Cadets climbed to 6-3-1 on the year and 2-0-1 in conference play.

Lasell freshmen Newton Jordao (Hyannis, Mass.) scored his first collegiate goal for the Lasers and junior keeper Miguel Colmenares (Caracas, Venezuela) stopped a pair of shots in the loss.

Norwich sophomore Jacob Zimmerman (Litchfield, N.H.) scored for the visitors, and junior Ludo Kamga (Tunis, Tunisia) notched the game-winning goal while freshmen Colin Lozito (Wilmington, Vt.) recorded an assist on the goal by Zimmerman. Christian Hallstrom (Las Vegas, Nev.) made 10 saves in net for the Cadets to earn the victory.

Norwich opened the scoring early in the first half, a well-placed ball by Colin Lozito setup Zimmerman at the top left corner of the 18-yard box and Zimmerman coolly fired a low shot past a diving Colmenares just inside the right post to make it a 1-0 in the seventh minute of play.

Four minutes after being introduced to the action Lasell's Jordao struck a swerving ball from outside the top of the 18-yard box that darted left and past Hallstrom just inside the left post to even the score at 1-1 in the 31st minute.

Norwich re-took the lead in the 41st minute when a dipping strike from Ludo Kamga from 30 yards out eluded Colmenares and found the back of the net to give the Cadets a 2-1 advantage at the break. Lasell had several second half chances, including a rocket from Jon Sutton (Orange, Conn.) in the 75th minute that nearly beat Hallstrom. Another chance from Conor Fitzgerald (Marshfield, Mass.) in the 82nd minute that delected off the fingers of Hallstrom and toward the goal line, only to see the senior keeper scramble back and stop it just on the line.

Lasell returns to the pitch on Tuesday September 30th when they visit Gordon College at 7:00 p.m. while Norwich will host Plymouth State at 7:00 on the 30th as well.
