Late Goal Helps #15 Brandeis to 1-0 Win over Men's Soccer

NEWTON, Mass. (9/9/14) – The Lasell College men's soccer team gave up a late goal, falling to #15 Brandeis University 1-0 in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon. The loss dropped Lasell to 1-3 on the season while Brandeis remained undefeated at 4-0.

Lasell kept the Judges off the scoreboard until the 83rd minute, when a corner kick off the foot of Josh Ocel (North Attleboro, Mass.) was met at the top of the six yard box on the far post by Zach Vieira (Andover, Mass.) who headed it back across the goal and into the back of the net.

Miguel Colmenares (Caracas, Venezuela) made eight saves, including several acrobatic stops to keep Brandeis off the board for the majority of the game.

Brandeis held an advantage in possession in the first half, but were limited to six shots in the opening half, most of which came from outside of the 18 yard box. The match opened up a little more in the second half, with Brandeis finding several quality chances, forcing Colmenares to make several saves on the door step. Once Vieira's goal broke the deadlock, Lasell found some better build-up play but were unable to find an equalizer once getting to the final third, allowing Brandeis to pull-out the victory.

Lasell will return to action on Saturday September 13th at St. Joseph's College of Maine with kick-off slated for 2:30 p.m. in their GNAC opener. Brandeis will host Clark University on Saturday September 13th at 6:00 p.m.
