Men's Soccer Falls 3-0 in ECAC Final at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (11/17/13) - The Lasell College men's soccer team fell 3-0 at the hands of Springfield College in the Eastern College Athletic Conference final on Sunday afternoon. Lasell concludes their 2013 season with a program record 17 wins after becoming the first team in school history to win multiple postseason games by defeating Lesley and Worcester State. Lasell finished 17-4-2 on the year, reaching the ECAC final for the first time in program history.

Ryan Malone gave Springfield a 1-0 lead in the got the Pride on the board in the 24th minute. Tyler Allen (Southbridge, Mass.) headed the ball into the box to Austin Vico (Plymouth, Mass.) who gave a nice feed over the defense to Malone who finished it, putting it into the right side netting.

A few minutes later, Drew Sommer (West Chester, Pa.) racked up his ninth goal of the season, making it a two-goal game in the 38th minute. The junior took it down the field on his own and buried a shot into the back of the net. 

Lasell nearly got a goal back in the 39th minute when oustide back Jonathon Hislop saw his shot from distance tipped over the bar to keep it a 2-0 game heading into the half.

  In the 51st minute, Kevin Nowak (Plainsboro, N.J.) made it a three-goal game. The junior took a pass from Michael Fowler (Maynard, Mass.) and took it into the box. The Lasell goalie dove and Nowak took it around him, ripping a shot into the far corner for a 3-0 Pride lead.

The Lasers continued to press forward in the attack, nearly getting on the board on a strike from Servi Barientos (Providence, R.I.) that was saved, and the Lasers were unable to muster a score for only the second time all season.

The Lasers will say goodbye to several departig members of the senior class, including all-time leading scorer Mike Skelton (Conway, N.H.), Brennen Adams (Southbuy, Conn.), Lawrence Fagan (Weymouth, Mass.), Nery Guerra (Guatemala City, Guatemala), and Jared Lewis (Haverhill, Mass.).
