Men's Soccer Reaches ECAC Semifinals with Historic 2-0 Win over Lesley

NEWTON, Mass. (11/13/13) – The #2 seed Lasell College men's soccer team advanced to the Eastern College Athletic Conference semifinals with a 2-0 victory over #7 seed Lesley University in quarterfinal action on Wednesday afternoon. The Lasers improved to 16-3-2 on the season after capturing their first ever postseason victory, and setting a new program record for wins with 16. Lesley dropped to 9-9-2 for the year.

Seniors Brennen Adams (Southbury, Conn.) and Cedric Dybaud (Quincy, Mass.) each scored second half goals to propel Lasell into the semifinal round. The Lasers claimed the first ever postseason victory in men's soccer, having exited the ECAC tournament in the quarterfinal round in each of their other three appearances.

Lasell keeper Miguel Colmenares (Caracas, Venezuela) made three saves in the victory while Lesley keeper Chase Donley (Elizabethtown, Pa.) made five saves in the match.

The first half was slow starting as neither team was able to create many meaningful chances, with Lasell holding a 6-3 edge in shots, but only one shot overall, by Lasell's Mike Skelton (Conway, N.H.) found the frame. The Lasers went in front 1-0 in the 50th minute when Skelton flicked a ball beyond the Lesley defense springing Brennen Adams into space and allowing him to finish, putting the hosts in front.

A Cedric Dybaud strike in the 65th minute that finished in the right upper 90 on a feed from Nery Guerra (Guatemala City, Guatemala) gave Lasell a 2-0 cushion. Lesley was outshot 12-6 over the final 45 minutes of play, but forced Colmenares into some nervy moments, forcing a pair of diving saves to preserve the led and earn his seventh shutout of the campaign.

Lasell will take on the winner of #3 seed Worcester State and #6 seed Mount Ida on Saturday November 16th at 2:30 p.m.
