Mike Skelton Named GNAC Player of the Year; Leads Five Lasell All-GNAC Selections

NEWTON, Mass. (11/11/13) - Lasell College senior Mike Skelton (Conway, N.H.)has been named the 2013 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Player of the Year by the leagues's coaches. Skelton, the GNAC Player of the Year for the second straight season was joined on the All-GNAC First team by senior midfielder Cedric Dybaud (Quincy, Mass.). Senior midfielder Nery Guerra (Guatemala City, Guatemala) was named to the All-GNAC Second team along with junior defender Manny Alves (Pawtucket, R.I.). Senior midfielder Sokol Bako (Roslindale, Mass.) received All-GNAC Third team honors for the Lasers.

Skelton led the GNAC in goals with 20 and points with 44, setting a new Lasell single season record for in both categories. He became the program's all-time leading goal scorer in the GNAC quarterfinals against Rivier, becoming the first player in team history to score 50 goals.

Dybaud earned First team honors after a strong senior campaign. He started all 20 games of the season, scoring twice and registering three assists while providing excellent two-way play for the Lasers. 

Guerra was selected to the GNAC Second team, starting all 17 matches he played in, scoring twice and assisting on three others. Alves registered 18 starts in 20 appearances as a center back for the Lasers, helping key a Lasell defense that yielded only six goals in nine GNAC matches. Alves also proved to be valuable in the attack scoring four times during the year.

Bako was named to the Third team, handing out a pair of assists while appearing in 19 matches with 17 starts.
