NEWTON, Mass. (11/5/13) - The Great Northeast Athletic COnference honored a pair of Lasell College men's soccer players for their play during the week of 10/28-11/3. Senior forward Mike Skelton (Conway, N.H.) was named the GNAC Player of the Week awhile freshmen midfielder Lance Mayo (Cambridge, Mass.) claimed GNAC Rookie of the Week honors.
Skelton scored three goals in a pair of victories this week, helping Lasell to a 2-0 week. He scored both of the Lasers goals in a 2-1 non-conference victory over Babson College giving him 16 goals on the season and setting a new single season record. Skelton then set a new men's soccer program mark for career goals when he scored in the 74th minute of player in the Lasers GNAC Quarterfinal victory over Rivier. His header put Lasell in front 3-1, all but securing the victory and marked the 50th goal of his Lasell career.
Mayo scored from the top left corner of the 18 yard box to put Lasell up 2-1 against Rivier in the GNAC Quarterfinals. Mayo's goal would end up being the scored the game winner for the Lasers. the freshmen also added an assist later in the contest, giving him two goals and three assists on the season.
