Men's Soccer Claims 10th Win with 4-0 Defeat of Emmanuel

NEWTON, Mass. (10/19/13) – The Lasell College men's soccer team knocked off Emmanuel College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference action 4-0 on Saturday afternoon in front of a large Family, Friends and Alumni Weekend crowd. The Lasers pushed their record to 10-3-1 on the year and 5-1-1 in GNAC play while Emmanuel slipped to 7-10-0 overall and 3-4-0 in conference contests.

Conor Fitzgerald Marshfield, Mass.), Mike Skelton (Conway, N.H.), Brennen Adams (Southbury, Conn.) and Nick Liquori (Westfield, Mass.) all scored to etch their names onto the score sheet for the Lasers, with Adams and Skelton tacking on assists as well.

Each team created chances early in the contest as Lasell forced Emmanuel keeper Garrett Charette (West Springfield, Mass.) into a pair of saves in the opening five minutes, but the Saints would respond, challenging the Lasers defense with a trio of shots before the match was 10 minutes old. Danny Richman (Medfield, Mass.) forced the Lasers keeper into an early save, before Jordan Mauer (Florence, Mass.) saw his effort sail over the cross bar and Ryan Brady's (Springfield, Vt.) header was wide of the post. Lasell then collected their composure and settled into the game, possessing the ball for large portions of the half. The Lasers got on the scoreboard in the 36th minute when Cedric Dybaud's (Weymouth, Mass.) cross set the table for Conor Fitzgerald who finished the ball for his fifth goal of the season.

Lasell made it 2-0 in the 54th minute when Taylor Witherbee's (E. Bridgewater, Mass.) service was nodded down by Brennan Adams to the feet of Mike Skelton who found the back of the net for the 11th time in 14 games. Skelton then held up the ball in the middle of the field before springing Adams with a neatly played through ball that Adams slotted home to put Lasell up 3-0 in the 60th minute. Lasell closed the match out in the 88th minute when a ball from Jose Cabrera (Quertaro, Mexico) found Nick Liquori in space inside the top of the 18 and the sophomore's shot beat the Saints keeper for the final 4-0 result.

Miguel Colmenares (Caracas, Venezuela) made three saves on the afternoon for Lasell while Garrett Charette made six saves on the afternoon.

Lasell will travel to Rivier on Wednesday October 23rd for a 7:00 p.m. GNAC match against the Raiders while the Saints will host Suffolk University on Wednesday October 23rd in a 7:00 p.m. conference fixture.
