Monks Trip Up Lasell in Men's Soccer

Newton, Mass. (10/22/12) - The Lasell College men's soccer team had their ten match winning streak snapped in a 2-1 road defeat at the hands of St. Joseph's College of Maine. The loss leaves the Lasers at 14-2 overall and 9-1 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, while St. Joseph's improves to 10-6-2 overall and 6-3-1 in the conference.

Brennen Adams (Southbury, Conn.) tallied the Lasell goal, his fourth of the season while Miguel Colmenares (Caracas, Venezuela) made a pair of saves in a losing effort. Zach Johnson and Joe Murphy scored for the Monks, whose keeper Scott Benner made six saves in the victory.

Johnson put the Monks on the board in the 25th minute, scoring on a cross from Jason Wade giving the hosts a 1-0 lead. In the final seconds of the first half the Monks earned a free kick and Murphy was able to get a head on Dan McIntyre's ball sending it at Colmenares. The Lasell keeper saved Murphy's initial effort, but was unable to control the rebound which Murphy drove into the back of the net.

Adams drew Lasell within a goal in the 53rd minute when his strike found the bottom right corner of the net. Lasell continued to keep the pressure on the Monks, but were unable to find an equalizer, falling 2-1.

Lasell created a number of chances, holding a 22-7 edge in shots, and an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal.

The Lasers will travel to Westfield State on Wednesday October 24th for their regular season finale at 7pm, before opening play in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday October 27th.
