Four Lasers Earn GNAC Weekly Honors

NEWTON, MA—In the first week of competition for the 2011 Fall season, four Lasell College athletes received weekly honors from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) for their standout performances.

Mike Skelton (Conway, NH) of the men's soccer team started the year off with a hat trick against Wheelock College in the first round of the Lasell College Kick Off Classic on Saturday afternoon.  The Lasers produced a 16-0 win over the Wildcats to move onto the finals of the tournament against Potsdam State.   In that contest, Skelton scored an amazing, go-ahead goal in the 53rd minute by smartly coaxing the Potsdam goalkeeper out of net, and lobbing the ball over him to bound into the goal.   Skelton also connected on his penalty kick in the shootout round.  Skelton was named GNAC men's soccer Player of the Week.

Elizabeth Stickley (Mashpee, MA) was awarded GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week honors after making 10 saves over the weekend at the Springfield College Tournament.  Stickley made 9 of those saves on the second day of competition against Vassar College in an outstanding effort.  Stickley currently has a 1.5 GAA and a .769 save percentage after two contests.

From the men's & women's cross country teams, Raymon Donis (Raynham, MA) and Meghan Missett (Lowell, MA) each earned the honor of Runner of the Week.  Donis was selected after finishing the Keene State Invitational 5K in 19:49, while Missett was Lasell's top runner at the meet, finishing the two mile women's course in 13:48.  Missett earned 21st place individually in the meet.
