Three Rookies Earn Weekly Honors from the GNAC

NEWTON, MA-- Three Lasell College first year athletes were honored by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) as Rookie of the Week for their respective sports.  David Kananowitz (North Monmouth, ME) earned cross country honors, James Clancey (Chicopee, MA) picked up men's soccer honors, and Jamie Harris (Lynnfield, MA) secured women's soccer honors.

Kananowitz earned the cross country Rookie of the Week honors after placing 14th overall in his first collegiate race, the 2010 President's Cup.  The race was hosted by the Lasers on August 28th at Cold Spring Park in Newton, Massachusetts.  Kananowitz finished the 5K in a total time of 21 minutes and 17 seconds, helping the Lasers to a second place finish in the meet.

Clancey was awarded the GNAC men's soccer rookie honors for his performance in the Lasell College Kick Off Classic Tournament which was hosted September 4th and 5th on Taylor Field.  Clancey was a stronghold for Lasell in the backfield, making incredible plays to hold down the Lasers defense against New York University Polytechnic Institute and Farmingdale State College.  He was named to the All-Tournament team for his showing this weekend in which the Lasers finished second, with a 1-1 record.

Harris was also an All-Tournament honoree this weekend at the 2010 Lotto Tournament hosted by St. Lawrence University.  The rookie forward scored one goal, earning two points, in the Lasers' 2-1 victory over Clarkson.  Harris' goal was the final goal of the contest which sealed the Lasell women's soccer team's first win of the year.  The Lasers are currently 1-1 this season.
