LASELL COLLEGE MEN'S SOCCER SWEEPS GNAC SPRING SOCCER TOURNAMENT

EPPING, NH- The Lasell College mens soccer team participated in the first annual Great Northeast Athletic Conference Spring Soccer Tournament. The event was held at the Seacoast United Soccer Club's facility in Epping, New Hampshire. Including Lasell, participating teams were St. Joseph's College, Johnson & Wales University, and Rivier College.

 

In the opening match, Lasell faced Johnson & Wales University and closed the match with a 2-0 win. Scoring for Lasell in the 20th minute was Lawrence Fagan (Weymouth, MA) and was assisted by Torry Gomez (Westerly, RI). In the 33rd minute, Cedric Dybaud (Weymouth, MA) doubled the scoring with a beautiful finish which was assisted by Eric Fournier (Meriden, CT). Pete Trantalis (Norwich, CT) earned the shut out in goal.

 

In the second match, Lasell faced a strong St. Joseph's team and rose to the occasion by handing the Monks a 2-0 loss. Nery Guerra (Guatamala City, Guatamala) weaved through the St. Joe's defense to notch his goal in the 15th minute off a pass from Kyle Cronin (Weymouth, MA). Cronin was not done as he scored what would be the goal of the tournament. Receiving a beautiful pass from Gomez who on his own beat three players; Cronin took the ball on his first touch and hit a18 yard rocket to the upper corner of the St. Joseph's goal. Again, Trantalis earned the shut out and made two saves.

 

The third match of the afternoon saw the Lasers take on Rivier College. Over the span of 15 minutes, Lasell had opened a 4-0 lead. Dan Hatch (Avon, MA) found the goal twice, Gomez had one more to add to his afternoon, and Guerra had a hat trick booting in three goals. Drawing valuable assists on these goals were Dylan McNulty (Meriden, CT), Dybaud with two, and Guerra with one. Trantalis' shut out streak ended in the 25th minute and later gave up another late in the match.

 

The Lasers concluded the day undefeated, scored 10 goals, and only gave up two as they were crowned the 2011 GNAC Spring Soccer Tourney champions.
