Lasell's GNAC Unbeaten Streak Continues

NEWTON , MA –Marcus Lopez's (Barrigada, Guam) goal in the 12th minute led the Lasell College men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Norwich University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play on Wednesday afternoon. Adam Luciano (Fairfield, CT) tallied the second mark of the game and James Clancey (Chicopee, MA) assisted on both goals as the Lasers remained unbeaten in the GNAC with a 6-0-2 league record.

Lopez headed in the opening goal at 11:04 off a direct kick by Clancey taken from 20 yards out. Despite the Lasers holding a significant 11-2 advantage in shots during the first half, the 1-0 lead would stand through the halftime buzzer.

Lasell would add cushion to their lead in the 49th minute of the match with a repeat performance of the first goal.  Lasell was awarded a free kick from near midfield which Clancey launched into the penalty box and Luciano headed in for the 2-0 edge.

At 54:14, Norwich received a chance to close the gap when they received a penalty kick after a Laser foul in the box.  Jake Leclaire (Henderson, NV) took the shot for Norwich but Lasell's goal keeper Matthew Bruninghaus (Plymouth, MA) made a spectacular kick save to keep the shot from crossing the goal line, sustaining the shutout.

Bruninghaus recorded five saves en route to his fifth season shutout.  Norwich goalie Alex Toomey (Anchorage, AK) stopped eight Laser shots from scoring in the defeat.

Lasell holds a 7-6-2 overall record and faces Emerson College on Saturday, October 23rd at 1:00 p.m. in their final GNAC regular season game.  Norwich ended the contest with an 8-6-2 overall record (4-3-0 GNAC) and will challenge Suffolk on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
