Hatch Leads Lasers to 4-1 Win over Lions

Newton, Mass.-  The Lasell College Lasers and the Emerson College Lions met today in GNAC action on Taylor Field. The Lasers were the victors of the contest by a score of 4-1.

The Lasers were the first to attack, drilling the opening goal just eight minutes into the match.  Dan Hatch (Avon, Mass.) received a pass from Tholemson Francois (Stoneham, Mass.) who was 20 yards away from the goal. Hatch was waiting just outside the six, turning and firing the ball into the opposite corner of the net.

Less than four minutes later, Shane Vinnicombe (Pomfret Center, Conn.) found Robby Gonzalez (Palmdale, CA) from deep outside passing into close range, beating the Lions keeper with another cross-net attack.

At 23:34 into the period, and just three minutes after their previous score, Paul Meucci (Venon, Conn.) upped Lasell's advantage one again when Vinnicombe sent a long ball from the midfield to within the goal box.  Meucci did a quick hesitation causing the goalkeeper to dive one way, while he shot the other, scoring his third goal of the season.

Lasell entered the halftime with a comfortable three goal lead.  Freshman Evan Gaccione (Westerly, RI) had a close shot that edged just wide at the 56th minute.  Emerson's Joshua Watkinson (Rochester, NH) followed up with the first near opportunity for the Lions in the second half with a ball that skimmed just over the top of the cross bar on the net.

The score remained unchanged until at 68:16, Anatole Draleau (Newport, Mass.) chipped a pass to Zachary Johnson (Westbrook, ME) who was situated in front of the Lions net.  Johnson dropped the ball just a short way to Hatch who scored with a cannon from short left field.

Emerson eventually got on the board in the 77th minute when Corey Walls (Scituate, Mass.) dribble from the midline past the Lasers defense and shot a ball hard at Lasell's Julian Dutton (Madison, Conn.) in the net. Dutton was ready but a bad bounce trickled the ball behind the Lasers keeper and Mike Giles (Wakefield, RI) of Emerson knocked the loose ball into the goal.  The Lions goal finalized the scoring on the day.

Dutton collect a total of five saves in the net over the 90 minute game for Lasell. During the final 20 minutes of contest Dan Pelegero (Woodinville, WA) replaced Noah Price (Apex, NC) in net for Emerson and collected four saves in the final minutes.  Price had three saves in the contest.

The Lasers are now 3-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in GNAC play.  Emerson finished the day at 1-4-0 and they remain without a win in the conference.

Lasell returns to action on Tuesday, September 22nd at University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth.  Game time is 4:00 p.m.
