MEN'S SOCCER HEADS TO ECAC'S

The Lasell College men's soccer team has been selected as the 7th seed in the 2008 ECAC Division III New England Men's Soccer Championship.  The Lasers will play the no. 2 seeded Curry College Colonel's, November 12th, at 4:00 p.m., on the Colonels home field.

This is the second ECAC bid for the Lasers, under head Coach Giovanni Pacini, with their first appearance being in 2005.  The 2008 squad has gone 12-7-0 this season, losing in the semi-finals of the GNAC championship tournament, 0-2, to St. Joseph's College (Me.).

Curry College finished this season at 15-3-3, and lost in the semi-finals of the Commonwealth Coast Conference tournament to Nichols College, 1-2. The Colonels finished third in the CCC behind Western New England College and Roger Williams University.

The Lasers will be lead by senior captain, and four year All-Conference forward, Zach Gagne (Somerset, MA).  Gagne finished the regular season as Lasell's all time leading point scorer in the men's soccer program's history (121 points).

Gagne will be aided by sophomore forward Dan Hatch (Avon, MA), junior defender Paul Meucci (Vernon, CT) and junior goalkeeper Julian Dutton (Madison, CT).  Hatch finished the season with 31 points, on 13 goals and 5 assists, tied with Gagne for the most points this season.  Meucci has been playing particularly strong in the second half of the season, and was chosen to the GNAC All-Tournament team in the post-season.  Dutton continues to shine for the Lasers, having played 15 games in net this season, producing 5 shutouts, and making 87 saves.

The first-round winners will advance to the semifinals on Saturday, November 15 hosted by the highest remaining seeds. The winner of No. 2 Curry/No. 7 Lasell will play the winner of No. 3 Coast Guard/No. 6 Saint Joseph's in the other semifinal. The semifinal winners will meet Sunday, November 16 for the championship.
