Lasell Shut Out by Clark University

In an intense and physical competition on Taylor Field this afternoon, the Lasers took on the Cougars of Clark University, in non-conference play.

The Cougars opened the game with a goal just under the one minute mark when Lasell's goalkeeper, Julian Dutton (Madison, CT) came out of net to challenge Clark's Baran Doenmez (Dublin, NH). Doenmez succeeded in controlling the ball, and had an open shot at the unprotected net.

Despite the early goal, the Lasers played tremendously well, creating opportunities for themselves, and prohibiting the Cougars from gaining control of the ball. Lasell's Rocco Mazzaferro (Niskayuna, NY) and Brandon Hanss (Halifax, MA) were dominant on defense, securing the back field, holding Clark to only two shots in the first half.

The Lasers found 10 chances in the first half to shoot on Clark's goalkeeper, Peter Wise (Providence, RI). Lasell's Kyle Cronin (Weymouth, MA) had a commanding presence on the field, attempting 5 shots, while Zach Gagne (Somerset, MA) and Steve Petrin (Vernon, CT) attempted 2 shots on goal each. Wise had 5 saves in the half.

Before the breaking for the half, Clark's Jenner Alpern (Towson, MD) connected with top right corner of the Lasers' net off a long pass from Alexander Herlich (Andover, MA) to cushion the Cougars advantage.

Though the Lasers' outshot the Cougars again in the second half, they could not connect with the net. At the conclusion of the contest, Clark held onto their advantage and prevailed, 2-0.

Lasell picks up conference competition on Saturday, September 20th, when they play Rivier College, on Taylor Field. The Lasers are currently 1-0 in the GNAC, 1-4 overall. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
