XC: Lasers compete at Blazer Invitational

Chicopee, MA-The men's and women's cross country teams were in action again today at the Blazer Invitational hosted by Elms College.  This was the most difficult course that the teams have competed on so far this season.

On the men side, first year runner Michael Curran was the top finisher for the Lasers with a time of 35:45 for the course.  Also running for the men today were sophomore Spencer Villinski, who competed in his first collegiate 8K with a time of 55:07 and senior Zach Kirsch finishing with a time of 38:52. After the race Curran said "Elms was a tough course. I battled it to the best of my ability. Having to do the big hill twice slowed me down but I kept pushing and after my second hill, I knew I was closer to finishing. I am happy with my performance today."

First year runner Emily Varga (Georgetown, Mass.) was the top finisher for the women today, finishing with a time of 32:39 for the 6k course. This was the first 6k race for the women. "For my second race and on a tough course with a lot of hills I did my best and am happy with my time especially with it being my first 6K," said Varga after her run.   The other women finishers today were sophomore Hanna Babek (Deep River, Conn.) with a time of 33:09, junior Adrianna Tassone (Salt Point, N.Y.) with a time of 34:24 and senior Eftihia Fotos (Auburn, Mass.) with a time of 37:52.

Both teams will be in action again next week when they travel to New Hampshire to compete in the Keene State Invitational.
