WVB: Lasers split in regular season finale; earn third seed in GNAC postseason berth

Newton, Mass. - The Lasell Women's Volleyball team split in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon defeating Dean College and falling to Rivier University.

Match 1

The first set was a slow start for the Lasers as Dean was in control early on. However, the Lasers gradually took over the set and won 25-18. In set 2, Lasell would yet get off to a slow start but picked back up midway through the set and at one point would register 6 points in a row to pull away from the Bulldogs 25-15. In the last set, it was Lasell. From the beginning to the end, Lasell put forth a dominant effort in every way of the set to eventually sweep the Bulldogs and win their first of 2 matches today.

Match 2

This match was set out to be an intriguing match as both teams started out the 1st set trading blows. It could have went either way, but the momentum shifted towards the Raiders of Rivier as they ended up sneaking past the Lasers 25-21 in the first set. In set #2, both teams once again played it evenly from the beginning but once the midway point hit, Rivier slowly pulled away and snuck past the Lasers to steal the set. It was yet another battle early on but once again at the midway point, Rivier would register 8 straight points to break away a 12-12 tie to seize any hopes of a Lasell comeback and swept the Lasers in 3 sets.
