WVB: Lasers handle Sharks in 4 sets on road

Boston, Mass. - The Lasell Women's Volleyball team took on their foe Simmons University at the Holmes Sports Center in Boston Tuesday night for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match in which the Lasers defeated the Sharks.

How it happened: In the first set, both teams traded blows early on and throughout the midway point of the set but the Lasers would get seven straight points to open up a comfortable lead at 21-15 as they would eventually take the first set 25-17. The second set belonged mainly to the Sharks as they controlled the set throughout and held the Lasers to 3 kills, therefore, breezing by the Lasers 25-13. At the beginning of the third set, Simmons would jump out with early momentum leading 9-5 but Lasell would respond with six straight points to force a Sharks timeout. After a few back and forth points, the Lasers went on a surge and never looked back. They went on a 10-0 point run to take care of the third set 25-14. In the last set, both teams traded blows yet again and at the middle of the set, Simmons looked to pull away with some momentum. However, Lasell would go yet another tear and take the momentum in the set as they would create two surges late in the set to eventually defeat the Sharks in four sets.

The win helps to improve Lasell to 17-12 overall (9-2 in GNAC play). The Lasers are back in action this Saturday afternoon hosting a tri-match at the Athletic Center, first facing Rivier University at 11 AM and then followed by Dean College at 3 PM. Meanwhile, Simmons falls to 14-10 overall (8-3 in GNAC play) and will be back in action in a tri-match at West Hartford, Connecticut against Albertus Magnus and the host University of Saint Joseph's (CT).
