NEWTON, Mass. - The Lasell University women's volleyball team won 16 games during the 2021 season, the most for the program since 2013, as the 2021 Lasers finished with a 7-6 record in the GNAC and reached the quarterfinals of the conference tournament under Head Coach Jeff Vautrin '17.

Freshman Sabine Milton took home GNAC All-Conference second team and All-Rookie squad honors. Freshman McKenna McCool also represented the program on the All-Rookie team. On Sept. 27, Milton garnered the conference's Rookie of the Week award, as she recorded double-digit kill totals 14 times during her first season as a Laser.

Milton ranked fourth in the GNAC in kills per set (3.04) and fifth in total kills (252), while Juliana Medini (team-high 76 total blocks) ranked third in blocks per set (0.83) and McCool (team-leading 71 service aces) checked in at fifth in aces per set (0.68). McCool (233 kills) and Tori Scambray (216 kills) complemented Milton well at the net.

The team compiled six consecutive wins from Oct. 2-9, with five of the victories being sweeps. The 2021 Lasers played well under pressure, winning five matches by a score of 3-2.

Jess Langan led the team in assists (666), while Emily Cerasani finished with 150. Lasell saw seven student-athletes compile over 100 digs, featuring Scambray (228), McCool (199), Langan (165), Hope McFall (158), Camila Lopez (152), Milton (148) and Isabella Babcock (128).

Lasell dropped the first two sets, and then rallied to win the final three sets during a thrilling 3-2 victory against Worcester State on Sept. 18. During the comeback win, Scambray and Milton combined for 27 kills and 20 digs, while Langan compiled 30 assists and 17 digs.

The Lasers earned the seventh seed in the conference tournament and gave second-seeded Simmons everything it could handle during the first round of the playoffs in a 3-2 triumph for the Sharks. Lasell went down, 1-0 and 2-1, but showcased resiliency both times to even the score at 1-1 and 2-2. Lopez had a big night with 17 digs and 10 kills.
