FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Lasell University women's volleyball team captured a 3-0 non-conference victory at Fitchburg State University Tuesday evening at Parkinson Gymnasium, winning by set scores of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-16.

The Lasers have won three matches in a row and seven of their last nine to improve to 9-5 overall, while the Falcons drop to 1-13.

Freshman Sabine Milton (San Mateo, Calif.) led the Lasers with eight kills, four blocks and nine digs, while classmate Tori Scambray (Brea, Calif.) pounded six winners and freshman Madalyn Scully (Mauston, Wis.) chipped in with five. Senior Jess Langan (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) contributed four service aces and 15 set assists.

Fitchburg State grabbed a 7-5 edge in the opening set on kills from graduate student Lauren Riccardi (Tewksbury, Mass.) and sophomore Alissa Olmsted (Ashby, Mass.) before Lasell knotted the score at 10-10 following a service ace by Langan. The Falcons regained the lead (13-10) as Riccardi notched another kill, but the Lasers went on a 4-1 run at the end of the first set to make the score 22-17 in favor of the visitors, capped by kills from Camila Lopez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Scully, resulting in the 25-20 first set final.

Lasell opened the second set with a 6-2 margin on a kill by Milton. The Green and Gold rallied to cut the deficit to 9-8 with freshman Sariah Dyer (Raynham, Mass.) adding a kill before the Lasers closed out the middle set on an Isabelle Babcock (York, Maine) kill for the 25-18 triumph.

The visitors raced out to an early 4-1 lead in the third set on a Milton kill, but Fitchburg State answered back (7-5) following a Riccardi kill. The Lasers extended their advantage to 17-9 on another kill from Milton and then secured the match as Milton netted her final winner, resulting in the 25-16 final.

Lasell returns home for another non-conference match against a MASCAC school on Thursday at the Athletic Center, hosting Bridgewater State University at 7 p.m. The Lasers will honor their late teammate Alysha Rentas prior to the match.
