WVB: Lasers down Curry for non-conference victory

MILTON, Mass. – Freshman Mckenna McCool (Loomis, Calif.) posted a double-double of 15 kills and 10 digs Wednesday evening as the Lasell University women's volleyball team defeated Curry College, 3-0, in a non-conference match at Katz Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-15, 25-20, 25-19.

The Lasers even their record at 2-2 on the season while Curry slips to 6-2.

Curry struggled to get the ball past the Lasell blockers all evening long, as the Lasers finished with 13 blocks in the match. Leading the way for Lasell was freshman Madalyn Scully (Mauston, Wis.), who finished the evening with three solo blocks and six assisted blocks.

McCool was the offensive leader, recording a match-high 15 kills at a .375 attack percentage. Classmate Sabine Milton (San Mateo, Calif.) recorded eight kills without an error (.533) for the Lasers as well, and freshman Juliana Medini (Roxbury, N.J.) had seven winners with a .364 attack percentage. Lasell posted a team attack percentage of .266.

Defensively, Lasell received 13 digs from freshman Tori Scambray (Brea, Calif.) and 11 digs from classmate Hope McFall (Bellingham, Wash.). Senior Jess Langan (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) finished with 19 set assists.

Curry was led by a strong showing from Lauren Guzman (Cranston, R.I.), recording five kills and picking up a team-high 13 digs. Lexi Pereira (Attleboro, Mass.) was the leading attacker for the Colonels, notching seven kills. The team also received four service aces from senior Faith Herity (River Edge, N.J.).

The Lasers are right back into action on Thursday with another non-conference match at Suffolk University. Curry will be back on the hardwood on Saturday, continuing its four-match home stand by hosting MCLA at 1 p.m.
