Wildcats Break Lasers’ Win-Streak

New Haven, CT—In a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match on Saturday, September 25th, the Lasell College women's volleyball team extended their win-streak to four as they defeated Albertus Magnus College, 3-1, before falling to Johnson & Wales, 3-0, in the second match of the day.

 

Lasell opened the day against Albertus Magnus, quickly sealing a 25-13 victory before falling in the second set 25-22.  Lasell came back to defeat the Falcons in four sets, 25-6 and 25-21.

 

In the forefront of the attack for Lasell was middle hitter Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) with 13 kills and a .346 hitting percentage.  Eileen Barrett (Ludlow, MA) followed close behind with 10 kills and Taylor Riley (Greencastle, PA) notched an additional nine.  Barrett also collected five total blocks at the net, and Drapeau added four more.

 

Melanie Costa (Ludlow, MA) was the primary defensive specialist with 27 digs in the four sets, but was aided by Sarah Eisenberg (Westfield, MA) with 12 supplementary pick-ups.  Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY) dispersed 35 assists in the match.

 

In the second GNAC match of the day, Lasell faced GNAC preseason favorites Johnson & Wales and gave the Wildcats three tough sets, but ultimately fell 31-29, 25-22, and 25-23.

 

Drapeau knocked down 10 kills, and headed all attackers with a.296 clip.  She also contributed with two individual and one assisted block.  Barrett was next in line in the kills column with eight, adding four blocks.

 

Crozier tallied a double-double dishing 27 assists and picking up 13 digs.  Eisenberg also reached double-figures in digs with 10.  Costa and Marisa Visocchi (Whitman, MA) matched with seven digs each.

 

Lasell travels to non-conference regional rivals University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth on Tuesday night to face the Corsairs at 7:00 p.m.
