Crozier Honored as All-Tournament at Union Invitational

Schenectady, NY-Lasell's sophomore setter, Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY) was selected to the Union College Invitational All-Tournament team after four non-conference women's volleyball matches this weekend.  The Lasers played well against some tough New York competition despite going 0-4 on the weekend.   

Lasell opened play against Skidmore College (16-5) who swept the Lasers in three sets.  Though the first two games were dominated by the Thoroughbreds, the Lasers came back in the final game to force extra points with a tight, 27-25, loss.

Crozier began things with a near-double-double as she pushed up 19 assists and added 9 digs.  Amanda Major (Southbury, Conn.) took care of the majority of the defense with a team-best 19 digs, while Elizabeth Nichols (Southington, Conn.) and Lauren Short (Scarsdale, NY) handled the majority of the offense with seven kills apiece.

The second match of the tournament was a battle with SUNY Oneonta, which Lasell dropped 3-0; 25-23, 25-12, and 25-14.  Major once again led in the dig category with 13, while Eileen Barrett (Ludlow, Mass.) contributed ten additionally.  Crozier distributed 21 assists to her attackers, which was made up primarily of Short, Nichols, and Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) who each put down six balls.  Barrett also had five kills in the match.

The Lasers then faced off against SUNY Potsdam on Saturday, stealing the first game before the Bears returned the favor in the next three sets.  Lasell got off on the right foot with Drapeau putting down 11 total kills, adding four service aces and five digs.  Crozier did come up with a double-double in this contest, securing 32 assists and 12 digs. 

Major was phenomenal protecting the Lasers court, scooping up 29 digs as the team's libero, but was assisted by Melanie Costa (Ludlow, Mass.) who came away with 19 dug balls in the four set contest.  Barrett and Nichols once again matched up with nine kills each, while Barrett also defensively scrambled for 19 digs.

In the Lasers final contest of the weekend, they were matched against hosting Union College.  The Lasers once again earned the victory in game one 25-21, but were taken aback with the next three games 25-18, 25-18, and 25-10. 

Crozier came away with 24 more assists and eight more digs for a weekend total of 96 assists and 32 digs.  Drapeau and Barrett each collected eight kills while Major was moved to the outside and put down four kills on the offensive attack, while still collecting 25 digs in the back row.  Costa finished the contest with 16 digs, playing as the team's libero.

Crozier averaged 6.8 assists per set, and 24 per match over the weekend, while  Major averaged 21.5 digs per match and 6.1 digs per set.

Lasell is scheduled next to travel to Rhode Island College, on Tuesday, October 13th, for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game with the Anchorwomen.
