Women's Track & Field: Nerich breaks hammer throw school record for the third time at Pre-Conference Meet

Weston, Mass. – Sophomore Madison Nerich (Peabody, Mass.) broke the school record in the hammer throw for the third time this season, throwing for a distance of 26.53 meters, as the Lasell University Lasers women's track & field team competed in the Pre-Conference Meet at Regis College Saturday.

Sophomore Sinclair Samuels (Spirngfield, Mass.) finished second in the shot put with a best of 9.92 meters. Freshman Taylor Sprague (Brockton, Mass.) finished seventh in the shot put with a personal record distance of 9.13 meters. Behind her in eighth was senior Elise Stanbury (Washington, N.J.) with a distance of 9.08 meters and in ninth was sophomore Riley Silvia (Raymond, Maine) with a best throw of 8.99 meters. Nerich finished in 19th with a distance of 7.67 meters and rounding out the Lasers who competed in the shot put was sophomore Caitlyn Geary (Marborough, Mass.) with a distance of 7.55 meters for 21st place.

Stanbury led the way in the Discus event finishing tops for Lasell in third with a career best 29.92 meter throw. Three spots behind was Silvia with a best throw of 27.87 meters and in ninth was Geary with a throw of 25.15 meters.

Senior Sophia Franzik (Wallingford, Conn.) posted a personal record and finished sixth in the javelin throw with a distance of 23.25 meters. Sophomore Kristina Powers (Canton, Mass.) also competed in the Javelin throwing for a distance of 20.46 meters. Samuels finished 18th in the Javelin with a distance of 15.43 meters.

The team that competed in the 4x100 meter relay finished third with a personal best record for the team of 53.87 seconds. The team consisted of senior Alahna Mild (Bar Harbor, Maine.) Powers, senior Emily Hong (Southborough, Mass.) and freshman Hanna Babek (Deep River, Conn.).

Babek topped the Lasers in the 100 meter dash as her time of 13.86 seconds was good for fourth place in the event and a new personal record. Hong was close behind in seventh finishing with a time of 13.46 seconds and sophomore Chante Gregory (Springfield, Mass.) finished 16th with a time of 16.59 seconds.

Senior Averie Greeley (Ledyard, Conn.) was the only Laser to compete in the 1500 meter run as well as the 5000 meter run. She placed 17th in the 1500 meter run with a time of 7:16.39 seconds and her 28:14.47 second performance in the 5000 meter run was good for fourth place.

The only Laser to compete in the 400 meter dash was sophomore Sarah Milne (Tewksbury, Mass.) as her personal best time of 1:08.68 seconds was good for fourth place.

Powers was the only Laser competing in the 400 meter hurdles and she took home third place in the even finishing with a time of 1:18.38 seconds.

Babek topped the 200 meter dash as well for Lasell with a fifth place finish, finishing with a time of 28.70 seconds. Hong finished 14th with a time of 29.85 seconds and Milne finished 14th with a time of 30.76 seconds.

Before the Lasers will be back in action, they will be having their senior day during halftime of the men's lacrosse game on Wednesday, April 27. They will be back on the track on Sunday May 1, when they compete in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) championships at Colby-Sawyer College.
