Women's Track & Field: Nerich breaks school record and Samuels finishes first in shot put at Regis Spring Classic

Weston, Mass. – Sophomore Madison Nerich (Peabody, Mass.) broke a school record for the second straight event and the Lasell University Lasers women's track & field team finished seventh overall, Friday afternoon at the Regis Spring Classic at Regis College.

Freshman Hanna Babek (Deep River, Conn.) led the three Lasers competing in the 100 meter dash finishing in a time of 14.06 meters. Senior Emily Hong (Southborough, Mass.) finished 10th with a time of 14.54 and sophomore Chante Gregory (Springfield, Mass.) finished 19th in a time of 16.71 seconds.

Babek grabbed points for the Lasers in the 200 meter dash as her time of 28.40 seconds was good enough for a fourth place finish. Sophomore Sarah Milne (Tewksbury, Mass.) broke a person record in the event finishing in 13th with a time of 30.40 seconds.

Milne also competed in the 400 meter dash finishing in seventh place with a time of 1:11.41 seconds.

Senior Averie Greeley (Ledyard, Conn.) was the only Laser to compete in the 1500 meter run finishing 15th in a time of 7:21.34 seconds. She was also the only Laser to compete in the 5000 meter finishing seventh with a time of 24:42.87.

The team of sophomore Kristina Powers (Canton, Mass.), Milne, Hong, and Babek finished fifth in the 4x100 meter relay in a time of 1:00.13 seconds.

Sophomore Sinclair Samuels (Springfield, Mass.) finished first in the shot put and put up a personal record with a distance of 10.25 meters. Senior Elise Stanbury (Washington, N.J.) finished 13th in the shot put with a distance of 8.63 meters. Sophomore Riley Silvia (Raymond, Maine) achieved a personal record and 14th place finish with an 8.59 meter throw and in 15th Nerich also recorded a personal record with a distance of 8.37 meters. Sophomore Caitlyn Geary (Marlborough, Mass.) made it four Lasell personal records in the shot put as her throw of 7.85 meters was good for the personal record and 19th place.

Stanbury recorded a third-place finish in the discus as her throw of 28.43 meters was good enough to earn points for the team. Silva finished eighth in the event with a best throw of 26.52 and Geary finished 11th with a distance of 24.30 meters.

Nerich had her school record breaking performance in the hammer throw as she broke her own record with a throw of 22.94 meters which was good enough for a 12th place finish.

Senior Sophia Franzik (Wallingford, Conn.) was one of two Lasers competing in the javelin throw and her ninth-place throw of 22.08 meters was a personal record for her. Powers also competed in the javelin finishing in 12th place throwing for a distance of 21.69 meters.

The Lasers will be back in action on Saturday, April 16, when they travel to Southern New Hampshire University for the Penman Relays.
