Women's Track & Field: Nerich breaks school record at the Corsair Classic Invitational

Dartmouth, Mass. – Sophomore Madison Nerich (Peabody, Mass.) broke the school record in the hammer throw as the Lasell University women's track and field team competed in the Corsair Classic Track & Field Invitational for their first outdoor event of the year Saturday afternoon at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth.

"It felt so great to be outdoors again!" proclaimed senior Elise Stanbury (Washington, N.J.) "Everyone was super energetic, and the atmosphere of the team felt so positive. I'm so proud of this team today! A great start to the season definitely."

Freshman Hanna Babek (Deep River, Conn.) was the leading finisher for the Lasers in the 100 meter dash finishing 20th with a time of 13.96 seconds. Shortly behind her was senior Emily Hong (Southborough, Mass.) finishing 25th in 14.43 seconds. Sophomore Sarah Milne (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished in 14.79 second for 27th and fellow classmate Chante Gregory (Springfield, Mass.) finished in 33rd with a time of 16.52.

Babek topped the Lasers in the 200 meter dash as well finishing 15th in 29.01 seconds. Senior Alahna Mild (Bar Harbor, Maine) was shortly behind Babek finishing in 19th with a time of 29.36 seconds. Milne rounded out the competitors in the 200 meter for Lasell finishing in 23rd in 30.61 seconds.

Sophomore Kristina Powers (Canton, Mass.) was the only Laser to compete in the 400 meter dash finishing in 16th with a time of 1:11.75.

Lasell also only had one compete in the 800 meter run where senior Averie Greeley (Ledyard, Conn.) finished in 35th with a time of 3:41.73.

Greeley was also the only runner in the 1500 meter run finishing in 39th with a time of 7:07:26.

Mild, Hong, Babek, and Powers was the team that compteted in the 4x100 meter relay finishing in fifth place with a time of 55.14 seconds.

Sophomore Sinclair Samuels (Springfield, Mass.) was the highest finisher for Lasell in the shot put finishing in 10th place throwing for a distance of 9.37 meters. Finishing in 17th was Stanbury for a distance of 8.55 meters. Sophomore Riley Silvia (Raymond, Maine) finished in 19th for a distance of 8.17 meter and Nerich finished 21st for a distance of 8.01 meters.

Stanbury was the highest finisher for Lasell in the Discus throw, finishing in sixth place throwing for a lifetime best 29.26 meters. Silva finished right behind Stanbury in seventh place with a personal best distance of 28.28 meters. Sophomore Caitlyn Geary (Marlborough, Mass.) finished in 15th place in the Discus throwing for a distance of 22.27 meters.

Nerich was the only Laser who competed in the hammer throw where she finished 23rd breaking a personal best and school record for 20.05 meters.

The final event for Lasell was the javelin throw where senior Sophia Franzik (Wallingford, Mass.) finished 16th throwing for a distance of 22.14 meters and followed up by Powers in 17th throwing for a distance of 22.00 meters.

The next event for the Lasers will be on Friday, April 8, when they go to Regis College for the Regis Spring Classic.
