WT&F: Lasers indoor returns to action with Springfield College Season Opener

Springfield, Mass. – The Lasell University women's track and field team competed in its first indoor meet since 2019 Saturday morning. The Springfield College Season Opener at the Springfield College Field House featured five Division III collegiate programs and one Division II collegiate program.

12 Lasers competed in the event, led by sophomore Sinclair Samuels (Springfield, Mass.) who finished eighth in the shot put and freshman Hannah Babek (Deep River, Conn.) who finished 15th in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.55 seconds. Babek also competed in the 200 meter dash placing 23rd with a time of 28.89 seconds.

Other Lasers who competed in the 60 meter dash were senior Alahna Mild (Bar Harbor, Maine), who was 29th in 8.91 seconds, freshman Maddie Young (Topsham, Maine), who was 30th in 8.97 seconds, senior Sophie Fistori (Darmouth, Mass.), who was 39th in 9.44 seconds, and sophomore Ahzelle Roach (Worcester, Mass.) who was 40th in 9.82 seconds.

Senior Emily Hong (Southborough, Mass.) was the top Laser finisher in the 400 meter dash, finishing seventh with a time of 1:08.93 ahead of sophomore Kristina Powers (Canton, Mass.), who finished ninth in 1:11.10, and Young who finished tenth in 1:12:07.

Senior Elise Stanbury (Washington, N.J.) finished ninth in shot put throwing 9.14 meters and right behind her in tenth was freshman Taylor Sprauge (Brockton, Mass.) throwing 8.77 meters.

Sophomore Madison Nerich (Peabody, Mass.) competed in both the shot put and weight throw finishing 16th in shot put with a distance of 7.28 meters and ninth in weight throw with a distance of 8.08 meters.

The Lasers will compete again on Saturday, January 15, in the Reggie Poyau Invitational at Brandis University.
