WSOC: Lasers have five named to All-GNAC and two earn All-Rookie; DeOliveira claims Rookie of the Year honors

Newton, Mass – The Lasell University women's soccer team had five of their players earn honors including on major award as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) announced their post-season honors and All-Conference team.

The Lasers also had two players named to the GNAC All-Rookie team.

Freshman Alyssa DeOliveira (East Providence, R.I.) was named Rookie of the Year by the GNAC as well as All-GNAC first team. Joining her on the All-GNAC first team are graduate student Korynne Provenzano (Stratham, N.H) and junior Bobbi O'Guin (Newton, Mass.). This is Provenzano's fourth straight year earning All-GNAC honors and second straight year on the first team. This is O'Guin's second time making the All-GNAC team after earning a spot on the second team as a freshman in 2019.

Graduate student Erin Petrocelli (Hanover, Mass.) and senior Serena Speight (Biddeford, Maine) earned All-GNAC second team honors. It is the first time either Petrocelli or Speight have earned All-GNAC honors.

Freshman Priscilla Martinelli (Plymouth, Mass.) and DeOliveira were named to the GNAC All-Rookie team.

In addition to the All-GNAC and Rookie teams, Provenzano, Petrocelli, and DeOliveira were named to the GNAC All-Tournament team following Saturday's championship game. Senior Angela Sanzari (North Haven, Conn.) was Lasell's representative on the GNAC All-Sportsmanship team.

In her first year in a Lasers uniform DeOliveira found the back of the net more than anyone else in the GNAC. Her 18 goals are good enough for tenth all-time in Lasers' history for goals in a season. She also ranked second in the GNAC in points with 37, which also places her tenth in Lasers' history for points in a season.

Provenzano was an anchor on the Lasell backline which allowed only six goals during conference play, good for second best in the GNAC. During her four years with the Lasers, Provenzano has made All-GNAC every season. As a freshman and sophomore, she earned All-GNAC third team and as a junior in 2019 she earned herself first team honors. Provenzano found scored on two occasions this year, first on October 13th in a 6-0 win over Colby-Sawyer where she also added an assist, and she scored again a week later in a 5-0 win over Simmons.

O'Guin earns her second All-GNAC selection and first time on the first team after making the All-GNAC second team as a freshman. O'Guin led the Lasell's midfielders with five goals and she ranked third on the Lasers in goals, assists, and points.

Petrocelli earns All-GNAC second team honors in her first full season as a starter for the Lasers. She recorded one goal and one assist as a key piece of the Lasell midfield. Her one goal was crucial for the Lasers season coming against the University of Saint Joseph Connecticut. That strike was in the first overtime period and won the game.

Speight a second-year starter for the Lasers earned All-GNAC honors for the first time with her second team selection. She was an important member of the Lasell midfield scoring four goals and assisting on five goals. She ranked second on the Lasers in assists and the five assists marked a new career high.

Martinelli earned GNAC All-Rookie team honors after an impressive first season in a Lasers' uniform. She ranked second on the Lasers in goals as well as assists and led the Lasers in assists with six. Her six assists were also good enough for her to rank in the top five of the GNAC. She played in all 19 games and the only game she did not start was the Lasers' senior day.

Lasell finished the year 13-5 under Vito La Francesca in his 15th season and finished second in the GNAC with a 11-2 mark. The Lasers defeated seventh-seeded Regis College in the Quarterfinal and third-seeded Saint Joseph's College Maine in the semifinal, before losing to top-seeded Johnson & Wales in the GNAC championship.
