WSOC: Lasers defeated by JWU in GNAC championship

Providence, R.I. – The second-seeded Lasell University Lasers women's soccer team fell to the top-seeded Johnson & Wales Wildcats, 3-0, in the GNAC championship Saturday night at Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletics Complex.

Johnson & Wales struck first in the in the 19th minute, senior Olivia Cairrao (Bristol, R.I.) whipped in a corner and found freshman Emily DeRoehn (Old Lyme, Conn.) at the back post who then headed it in for the goal.

The Wildcats struck ten minutes into the second half when Cairrao whipped in another corner and found sophomore Hailey Viebrock (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) in the box to double the lead.

Johnson & Wales scored a third goal of a corner kick in the 73rd minute after the ball was sent in again by Cairrao she found freshman Angelina Oliveira (Naugatuck, Conn.) at the back post for the final goal.

Senior Angela Sanzari (North Haven, Conn.) made 11 saves, nine of which were in the first half.

Graduate students Korynne Provenzano (Stratham, N.H.) and Erin Petrocelli (Hanover, Mass.), as well as freshman Alyssa DeOliveira (East Providence R.I.) were all named to the all-tournament team.
