WSOC: Five score as Lasers cruise to GNAC victory

Newton, Mass. – Five different Lasell University Lasers scored goals in their, 6-0, defeat of the Colby Sawyer College Chargers Wednesday at Taylor Field.

The Lasers improve to 8-3 on the year and 8-1 in the GNAC while the Chargers fall to 3-7 overall and 3-5 in the GNAC.

Lasers got on the board first in the fourth minute when freshman Alyssa DeOliveira (East Providence, R.I.) collected an errant touch from a Charger defender and put it past junior Alexis Lebreton (Bangor, Maine).

A little more than two minutes later DeOliveira doubled her tally when she ran onto a long ball by graduate student Korynne Provenzano (Stratham, N.H.), took a few dribbles and blasted it past the keeper.

In the 31st minute junior Maria Henriquez ripped a shot from just outside the box hitting the crossbar and bouncing back off LeBreton and into the back of the net.

Exactly eight minutes after the Henriquez goal Lasell found themselves with a penalty shot from a handball in the box by the Charger defense. Provenzano calmly stepped up and put it in the left corner for her first goal of the year.

Freshman Priscilla Martinelli (Plymouth, Mass.) scored five minutes into the second half when she tapped in a center pass from senior Serena Speight (Biddeford, Maine).

The Lasers final goal was scored in the 63rd minute when junior Bobbi O'Guin (Newton, Mass.) received a short pass from Martinelli, took one dribble past a defender and powered it into the back of the net.

The Lasers will be back in action on Saturday, October 16, when they play host to Johnson & Wales in a matchup of the top two teams in the GNAC. The game will be senior day and it will also be Family, Friends and Alumni Weekend. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
