WSOC: Eight Lasers score in strong GNAC showing

Newton, Mass. – Eight Lasell University women's soccer players scored in their GNAC defeat of the Rivier University Raiders, 9-0, Wednesday at Taylor Field.

Freshman Alyssa DeOliveira (East Providence, R.I) got the scoring started for the Lasers in the 10th minute when fellow classmate Priscilla Martinelli (Plymouth, Mass.) crossed her the ball and DeOliveira hit it first-time with her right foot past the goalie. Junior Alex Lorenzo (Pawtucket, R.I.) scored her first of the season after intercepting a clear attempt and taking it herself for the goal.

16 minutes later another Laser got her first goal of the year when graduate student Narissa Libby (Gorham, Maine) put back a rebound of her own shot. In the 33rd minute sophomore Charlie Arellano (West Covina, Calif.) got her first goal in a Lasell uniform when she put in a right-footed shot following a short pass from freshman Michelina D'Agostino (Longmeadow, Mass.) Two minutes later the Lasers added another when junior Maria Henriquez (Malden, Mass.) had her shot blocked, but got back on the ball and blasted it by the keeper for her first of the year. D'Agostino got her first goal of her Laser career when a cross on the right side from Henriquez found her feet and she put it home with her right foot.

Junior Bobbi O'Guin (Newton, Mass.) wasted no time getting the Lasers back on the board in the second half when she ran all the way from midfield to put it past the keeper with her right. In the 52nd minute Martinelli tapped in a cross from the right side from senior Serena Speight (Biddeford, Maine). DeOliveira scored her second game following a cross from O'Guin that found her for a first-time left footed finish that hit the keeper's knee and went in.

The win improves the Lasers to 5-2 and 5-0 in the GNAC while Rivier falls to 2-7-1 and 0-5-1 in the GNAC.

The Lasers will be back in action on Saturday, October 2, when they travel to Saint Joseph's Maine for a matchup of top GNAC teams. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
