WSOC: Petrocelli sends the Lasers home happy in overtime

West Hartford, Conn. – The Lasell University women's soccer team defeated the University of Saint Joseph Blue Jays,1-0, Saturday at the USJ soccer field.

The win moves the Lasers to 4-2 overall and 4-0 in the GNAC, while the loss moves the Blue Jays to 5-1-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the GNAC.

The Lasers scored the only goal of the game in overtime when junior Alex Lorenzo (Pawtucket, R.I.) dropped a ball off to graduate student Erin Petrocelli (Hanover, Mass.) who takes a touch to settle and strikes it on her right foot from 25 yards out, over a diving goalie and into the top left corner for the winner.

Senior Angela Sanzari (North Haven, Conn.) got the win for the Lasers in net saving all four of her chances.

The Lasers had the edge over the Blue Jays in shots,16-6, while the Blue Jays had the edge in corner kicks, 5-4.

The Lasers will be back in action on Wednesday, September 29th, when they play host to Rivier in a GNAC matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
